Stone Blade Entertainment have just announced a deal with Middle-Earth Enterprises bringing the iconic Lord of the Rings universe to Stone Blade’s popular Ascension: Deckbuilding Game across three new interconnected Ascension sets.
The Lord of the Rings: Ascension is a deckbuilding game for 1-4 players, that will take you on adventures through Middle-earth. The game uses the popular mechanics from the Ascension series but has been tweaked and reimagined in places to offer a more Lord of the Rings feel to the game - for instance introducing rules for Corruption, that will help you (or not) resist the lure of The One Ring.

The three new sets align with the original trilogy of books - The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Each set is completely stand-alone in its own right, but can be combined to form an epic arc covering all of the Lord of the Rings series. With a play time of between 30-60 minutes, and for ages 13+, the set features an array of characters - heroes and villains alike - with all new arwork.
The fate of the world hands by a thread. Will you rally the Free People - Elves, Humans, Dwarves, and Hobbits - or turn toward the Shadow of Mordor? Recruit heroes, acquire powerful cards, and shape your strategy as you build your strength, all while confronting the quiet, ever-present pull of The One Ring. The game is fast to learn and difficult to master; each choice carries weight, and the path to victory is never without cost.
The original Ascension: Deckbuilding Game was released in 2010 and designed by Magic: The Gathering Pro-Tour champions Justin Gary, Rob Dougherty, and Brian Kibler with art by Eric Sabee. The game has since had dozens of sets released - both stand alone sets and expansions.
The new Lord of the Rings sets are due to be crowdfunded on Gamefound this summer.
